PEANUT BUTTER BROWNIE PUPPY CHOW

The best part about my mother making brownies when I was a kid? I got to lick the spoon and bowl.
But I always hated it when she’d use a spatula to scrape the bowl clean leaving almost nothing for me. I would just sat there with puppy dog eyes looking like someone had stolen all my christmas presents. I watched her pour every last drop into the pan and give me a nearly clean white bowl with no gooey goodness left.
But remember, I was a rather chunky child. So sometimes when my parents were gone, I would mix up an entire bowl of brownie mix. I never bothered to preheat the oven though, because I ate the whole thing with a spoon. A good idea in theory but not in practice. The stomach ache made me pay for my gluttony.

ANDES MINT PUPPY CHOW

I have two older brothers and I can promise you I was the most annoying baby sister anyone could ever have. I always wanted to tag along, I always wanted to play with them and their legos and I always ordered the same thing as them at restaurants. I can still hear my brother Paul saying “Copy cat! Copy cat!” as we stood at the counter at Mike’s Diner. Apparently the bacon cheeseburger was only meant for him…. But when we went out for Mexican food, it was all peaceful until the end. Our check came with an Andes Mint for each of us, so naturally we turned the wrappers into blow darts and started attacking each other.

REINDEER CHOW

Everyone has their own family Christmas traditions. Pajamas on Christmas eve, singing carols, acting out the nativity, white elephant gifts, special dinners… Well my family has a stocking tradition. I thought it was normal for the longest time, turns out it’s quite strange. I always get concerned looks from people when I tell them what Santa leaves in my stocking. Our stockings are always stuffed with dental “treats” and oranges. No, no dentist in the family, we are just that weird. New toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouth wash and a bunch of oranges stuffed into the toe of the stocking. But at the very bottom is something a little more Christmas-y. A bag of Chocolate Mint M&M’s, which we each devour them while we open presents…so maybe the dental stuff is so our teeth don’t rot from the minty goodness.

BUTTERFINGER PUPPY CHOW

I remember the first time I ever had this so called “Puppy Chow” or “Muddy Buddies” whatever you want to call it. I was at a wedding reception at my friend’s house and it was this weird looking white-coated powdery stuff served in little souffle cups. But I wasn’t a picky eater, so I decided to give it a shot.
By the end of the night I had about 9 of those little souffle cups stacked on my plate.
